What's a Playshop?
Unlike a typical art class, a playshop is not focused on teaching a specific art technique or having participants leave with an exemplar piece of work. Instead, a playshop is an invitation to play, explore, experiment, and reconnect with intuition and creativity — without pressure or expectations and with strong encouragement to make a mess.
The freedom to make a mess facilates play and exploration, and helps us stop worrying about the stigmatized idea of "being messy." Somewherealong the way, many of us learned that creativity had to be productive, polished, or “good,” and that making a mess was "bad" or "unnecessary," the "sign of a cluttered mind." Maybe not unsurprisingly then, play quietly disappeared from our adult lives. But lots and lots of research — and lived experience — tells us that play is actually essential for our well-being.
A playshop is about creative exploration rather than structured instruction, and it happens in a fun, relaxed environment. You'll be encouraged to experiment, explore new materials, invent different ways to use materials, generate ideas, and find your creative expression—without worrying about rules or results. Yes, you will create a piece of art, and yes you will be guided through an artistic process, but the focus is really about developing creative freedom, joy, and self-expression through art. Each playshop is built around a simple, easy process that participants can build on in endless ways to create their own sense of play and their own piece of art.
